Marine policies are written around the boat, the operator & the water you use. Request a quote & a licensed agent reviews your boat, how it's stored & where you cruise, then contacts you directly with options from the carriers they work with.

AGREED VALUE VS. ACTUAL CASH VALUE
AGREED VALUE
VALUE SET UP FRONT
You & the insurer agree on the boat's value when the policy starts. A total loss pays that amount, less the deductible.
ACTUAL CASH VALUE
VALUE AT THE TIME OF LOSS
Pays market value when the loss happens, after depreciation. Often priced lower, but pays less on an older boat.
FLORIDA & THE SOUTHEAST: PLAN AROUND HURRICANE SEASON
Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Expect carriers to ask for a written hurricane plan & to apply a separate named-storm deductible. Many stop writing new policies in an area once a storm is named, so don't leave coverage to the week of closing.

INSURANCE QUESTIONS
What if my trips go outside the navigation limit?
A claim outside the limit can be denied. Tell the agent everywhere you actually take the boat, including the Bahamas or offshore runs.
How do named-storm deductibles work?
They are often a percentage of the hull value rather than a flat amount, so the dollar figure can be large. Ask to see it in dollars.
Will I need a survey?
Older or higher-value boats usually need a recent survey before a policy is issued.
Do I need insurance before closing on a loan?
Lenders typically require proof of insurance before closing. Request your quote at the same time as financing.
Does insurance cover mechanical breakdown?
Generally no. Breakdown is what an extended warranty covers.
Total Source Marine Partners is not an insurance agency or agent & does not quote, sell or bind coverage. Insurance quote requests are shared with licensed agents & carriers who review them & may contact you. Coverage, pricing & availability are set by those providers & depend on the boat, the operator & your location. Submitting a request does not guarantee coverage.
